and people who love us!

YELP MELBOURNE Lucas, an attendee of the wine course had this to say recently ”After one night with Clare, I knew that this was going to be different. We started with the basics of taste and how it related to wine. Then onto how grapes and winemaking. All the while, with wine in our hands and some great cheese to boot!”  see the whole article here.

ANNAS APPETITE: Anna writes this cool foodie blog which is definitely on our most-hit list. She joined the course in 2013 and had this to say “After four weeks, my inner wine-wanker is sated, yet thirsty for more. If you spend money on wine, or if you find bottle-shops or wine lists overwhelming, or even if you just enjoy a drink and a bit of cheese, this course is for you…”. Thanks Anna!

MILKBAR MAGAZINE: Be hold the wonder of Milkbar Mag: serving up generous servings of interesting, exciting things daily. Thisarticle written by Ellen Fraser makes us happy…here’s a sneak peak: ”As we sip, swirl and nibble, we do some basic palate training, learn why certain regions grow spectacular wines, and why I can grow grapes on my balcony as much as I like, but my wines will probably always suck. We also learn why those tempting shiny gold medals don’t always equate to the best drop. Scandalous!”

BROADSHEET MELBOURNE: Dedicated to informing Melbournians, Broadsheet is the go-to directory for anything to do with anything – especially drinking and eating. They were kind enough to write a little story on the wine course, and also on the whisky course.

GOURMET CHICK: The lovely Cara Waters had this to say about the wine course on her wonderful  food blog ”Clare’s knowledge of wine is impressive and she manages to impart this while not descending into wine wankery.  Instead, a chardonnay is described as “having a bit of an ego” while cabernet is “the donut wine because it has a hole in the middle”.  Some of the wine mysteries Clare illuminated for me included which wine regions suit which varieties, which wine goes well well with char grilled food, and the difference between pinot grigio and pinot gris”.

[Hens Party Event] ”Thank you, Humble Tumbler for the most amazing session on Saturday. We had one happy hen & the whole shebang was perfect. Thanks, and I can’t recommend you highly enough” Laura, November 2013

”Clare’s admirable wine knowledge coupled with her ability to deliver the course content in a fun, intelligent and interesting way is a definite recipe for success”. Katie, November 2013

”The knowledge we gained throughout the course was practical and on point. For anyone wanting to learn the basics of how to read a wine list or wine label, to better understand the relationship between wine and food or to figure out why you like what you like when it comes to all things wine then the Humble Tumbler is for you”. Steve, November 2013

”Clare’s course was such a mid-week treat and we eagerly await the next instalment!” Carly, Renee, Bridget, Rachel and Shanti, July 2013

“Firstly, congratulations! After attending your Wine Appreciation 101 class held at The People’s Market through Laneway Learning in late January, I was so impressed by your presentation and professionalism that I had to do a little more research into The Humble Tumbler! Well done on pursuing your passion, taking the risk and commencing your own –  now highly successful – business! Your have reignited a little spark in me to pursue my childhood dream of one day running my own business! Yay girl! Since the class in late January, I am very eager to continue to learn more about wine! I found your presentation and manner of teaching very pleasant and surprisingly easy to follow!” Sarah, March 2013

”Dear Clare. Thank you for making space for my wife in the course, and working around her dietry requirements. We throughly enjoyed the classes – especially the Pinot Noir bracket…I now have all the words I need to describe those wines, which I’ve always had trouble with. We’ve been trying lots of new wines, and taking pictures of them as you suggested so we can remember. Going out for a drink now is always a little bit more interesting”. Michael – March 2013

[From a private food and wine matching masterclass] ”I had such positive feedback from everyone after the class. They all said that you were so knowledgeable, enthusiastic and had a wonderful relaxed style”. Ruth – 2013

“I have neglected to say thankyou so much for including my sister and I in the Humble Tumbler. I thought it was fantastic and actually have a group of my cousins (!) who want to come along soon. Great work” Mel – 2013

”I read the whole book from front to back in one sitting, and actually found it interesting..nice job” Liam 2013

“Just wanted to say a huge, heart-felt thank you for having us in the wine course.  Anyway you’ll be pleased to know I’ve been using my new knowledge and enjoying a range of wonderful wines- not just pinots anymore. Thank you for sharing your knowledge and making everyone feel so relaxed. The classes were great- relaxed, fun and educational” Bree – 2013
